Celebrating Women in Business, Porsha V.
Porsha first began her career in accounting 22 years ago as a part-time Accounts Payable Clerk. Now, after 4 years with Blue Chip Talent, acting as the Controller of one of the fastest-growing staffing firms in Metro Detroit means a great deal to her. “I have an extensive background in multiple areas of accounting, which has prepared me for this role. Nothing is an accident and I feel that I was given this opportunity for a reason.” Thankful for her time at BCT, Porsha loves when the team does activities outside of the office, specifically regarding the vacations as a true company highlight.
Overall, being a businesswoman gives Porsha the confidence that she will prosper and succeed in whatever she puts her mind to. Nonetheless, this does require patience and logical thinking. “As women, we often think with emotions, which can lead to illogical decisions. If you think of everything like a game of chess, analyzing every move before you make it, I can guarantee you will always make the best choices!” Placing this importance on the rationale behind decisions, Porsha would even write a book titled Begin with the End in Mind, explaining, “If you start everything you do thinking of the end result, it will motivate you to accomplish the task more quickly and eagerly.”
To gain some further insight, here are a few additional questions we asked Porsha:
Who is your inspiration?
“My inspiration is my daughter. She is young and bright and looks up to me. Everything I do is inspired by her because she is watching every move I make, and I MUST make the best impression I can in order to be her role model.”
Do you have any other interests or hobbies?
“The love of my life is food…we have a special unbreakable bond!”
What words of wisdom would you give your younger self?
“Always look forward but never forget the past. The rearview mirror is smaller than the windshield; it’s okay for us to glance in the back from time to time, but always stay focused on what’s ahead.”
Seeing value in the 20/80 rule, “Life is 20% what happens to you and 80% how you respond,” Porsha has some final words of encouragement as a woman in business: “Shoot for the stars and NEVER give up on a dream. Remember that mistakes are a good thing, as long as you learn from them. That is how you grow! Never get discouraged by no’s, closed doors, or letdowns. God always has something better right around the corner.”
